If you have little Disney fans in your family, a trip to the wintry world of Arendelle is in order! The magic of Disney is undeniable in its charming way of captivating youngsters. This two hour show (including a 15 minute intermission) is no exception. Before the Frozen story unfolds, our beloved pals Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy hit the ice for a conversation about the power of love while they glide around the rink. I didn't think it would be possible for the children in the audience to be more excited than they were from the outset when these larger-than-life icons made their appearance. That is, until the festive parade of princesses and their princes — along with other popular Disney characters — popped out to skate the opening number and wave at all the kids. It wasn't just the little ones in the audience who were awestruck. Moms, dads and grandparents were equally enchanted seeing Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Ariel, Donald Duck, Nemo, Woody and Buzz Lightyear, and Timon and Pumbaa. So much fun in just the opening number!
A FROZEN TREAT
What other Disney story could be more perfect on ice than Frozen? Thanks to Elsa and her unique powers, the arena turns into a winter wonderland with much snowfall throughout the show. Although the story is heavily edited for time constraints, it hits all the high points. It's great fun to watch Elsa and Anna on the ice, with Elsa showing off her immense skating prowess during her signature number, "Let it Go." All the other significant characters are part of the show, including Hans, Kristoff, Sven, Olaf, the trolls and the gigantic Marshmallow — this enormous icy snowman is spectacular on the rink. Sven, the adorable giant reindeer, and Olaf are bona fide crowd-pleasers, too. There are several comical moments with these two characters, including Olaf taking a spin around the rink without his head! Lots of dramatic lighting and special effects enhance the magic of the story. And no matter where you're seated around the rink, never fear. All the characters make a point to come by all sections to wave at the kids. The grand finale brings all the Disney characters back out for a fond farewell. Disney On Ice: Frozen is a best-bet outing this weekend, sure to delight everyone in your family. One word of advice, though. There's a lot of merchandise from Frozen snow cone mugs ($12 – $15) to plush Disney characters to several light-up toys ranging up to $35. It's all eye-appealing to little ones who will invariably yearn for a keepsake, so be prepared for your plan of action, whatever it may be.
