Eighth-grade students entering ninth grade in the 2019 – 2020 school year in Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) can apply to get into the School for Science and Math at Vanderbilt (SSMV).
It’s a four-year high school program on Vanderbilt’s campus led by a team of Ph.D. scientist instructors. Students in the program study a curriculum connecting science, technology, engineering and mathematics through hands-on exploration.
SSMV students attend class one day a week at Vanderbilt with the other four days at their regular high school. MTA bus access is available to all students, and SSMV is free of charge to MNPS students.
SSMV selects 26 students each freshman group every year. There is an application and interview process. Applications will be available Friday, Jan. 4 with a deadline of Friday, Feb. 15. For more info and to download the application, go to vanderbi.lt/ssmvapply.
