Why Families Still Love The Sound of Music After 60 Years

First released on March 2, 1965, the film became an instant classic — winning five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and capturing hearts around the world.

The story follows Maria, played by the incomparable Julie Andrews, as she leaves the abbey to become governess to seven lively children. With her kindness, courage, and irresistible songs, Maria brings music back into the von Trapp family home — just as the world around them begins to change.

Families can sing along to favorites like:

  • “Do-Re-Mi”

  • “My Favorite Things”

  • “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”

  • “Edelweiss”
