Where Every Family Matters

Sensory-Friendly Chill Zone Now Open at Discovery Center

Sensory-sensitive children will enjoy the Discover Zone's Chill Zone — a calm-down room courtesy of the Predators' Foundation.

It's not always so easy to venture out with a special needs child.
That's why the Discovery Center in Murfreesboro recently unveiled THE CHILL ZONE, a sensory calm-down room, courtesy of funding from the Predators Foundation. The effort required architects, creatives, occupational therapists and student involvement from Belmont University. The Chill Zone — in addition to a new ADA bathroom — are the result of The Discovery Center's Special Needs Task force which was formed several years ago to make the Discovery Center more accessible for all. The Center holds All Access Nights, too, when it closes to the public so special needs families can visit in a calm setting.

Upcoming All Access Nights (5:30 – 8 p.m.) are:

Tuesday, March 10
Tuesday, April 14
Tuesday May 12 5:30 – 8 p.m.

Head to the Discovery Center at 502 S.E. Broad St. in Murfreesboro for fun exhibits and events, birthdays and more — and keep in mind that The Discover Center is committed to accessibility and inclusion.
Discovery Center’s hours are Mon – Sat 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sun 1 – 5 p.m. Admission is $8. Call 615-890-2300 or visit explorethedc.org.
