September Classes & Activities for Kids

This month's activities & classes boast a wide variety for all ages. Mommy & Me yoga, anyone?

Each month, a variety of classes and activities for kids fills up our local calendar — many of them free! We get the scoop ahead of time and pass it on to you! From art and science to nature and cooking, to Mommy & Me yoga and square dancing, there’s always an interesting variety of offerings, so there’s no reason for kid boredom!

    Almost all of the following activities and classes require advance registration, so plan ahead and reserve your child’s space. And stay tuned each  month as we provide the run down on classes month by month in our area! Activities are listed by zones in this order: Davidson County, Rutherford County, Sumner County, Williamson County. DAVIDSON COUNTY/GREATER NASHVILLE

SQUARE DANCE WORKSHOP
Saturday, Sept. 2 | 10:30 a.m.
Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum, Nashville
Ages 5+
Free for kids in Davidson and surrounding counties (up to 2 adults get 25% off the $24.95 gate)
Learn classic country dancing with simple steps, twists and moves.

HOMESCHOOL SCIENCE LYCEUM
Tuesdays, Sept. 5 & 19
K-2 meets 12 – 12:45 p.m.; grades 3-5 meet from 1:30 – 2:15 p.m.; grades 6 – 8 meets from 3 – 3:45 p.m.
Adventure Science Center, Nashville

$5 members, $7.50 non-member kids in addition to gate admission ($14.95 adults, $10.95 ages 2 – 12)
This new educational science program explores chemistry, physics and anatomy through hands-on activities. The classes meet twice monthly with different themes and projects.

LEARN TO ICE SKATE
Tue/Thu or Sat, Sept. 5 – Oct. 21

Nashville Skating Academy offers group ice skating classes for all skill levels and styles.

MUSIC TOGETHER TRY-OUT CLASS

LETTERPRESS WORKSHOP
Sunday, Sept. 10 | 12, 1 & 2 p.m.

This workshop teaches kids about the old-school style of letterpress print making as they get to create their own prints to take home.

HOMESCHOOL DAY

ACTING 101

Kids can learn about the chores of the mid-1800s by actually doing them — like clothes washing, butter churning, rug beating. There’s also living history demonstrations, crafts and period games.

WILDERNESS AWARENESS WORKSHOP

ARTS AFTER SCHOOL

The Hendersonville Arts Council hosts this after-school program featuring a variety of hands-on art classes that include painting, drawing, sculpting, anime drawing, mythical/fantasy art, color theory and more.

SUMNER MUSIC TOGETHER
