We caught up with Janet York, manager of the Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center (SOAC), to find out about the progress because we know you’re just as excited about it as we are! Especially since the local pool has been shut down due to the renovations.
The SOAC will have exhibit hall; gallery for local art, photography, etc.; a lecture hall; a program room; two rentable party rooms; and the Adventure Zone, which will have two rooms of climbing walls and structures. With an expected completion time of sometime this fall, the only thing that’s been done is the walls have been knocked down, new entries and windows have been created, etc. It’s coming along, but it will take some time.
Regarding the community pool, York says, “We have raised the depth from 12 feet to 8 feet in order to accommodate a climbing wall for the pool. In addition, we are creating a new splash pad area, complete with buckets and fountains, a double slide, a channel current pool (similar to a lazy river), congregation areas (funbrellas), a new double sand volleyball court and a new gatehouse for entry.”
All the work being done sure is exciting and we know it’s going to add to the fun of the Smyrna area.
