There’s a great new place in Williamson County to grocery shop for your health-conscious family. Sprouts Farmers Market is a full-service store boasting lots of options, including all-natural, organic and non-GMO selections — all at affordable prices.
Founded by members of the Boney family, Sprouts’ history dates back to 1943 when Henry Boney opened his first fruit stand. Seventy-three years later, Sprouts now has more than 200 stores in 13 states nationwide.
The top “go-to” section is the vast produce department offering large quantities of fresh fruits and vegetables, including a few exotic finds like dragon fruit, cactus pears and rambutans. Nearby, certain fruits and veggies are turned into fresh juice blends every morning. Choose from four options: Sweet Beet Blend (carrot, beet, apple, lemon, ginger), Health Glow (carrot, cucumber, apple, parsley), Energize Me (Pineapple, apple, pear, ginger) and Green Power Punch (celery, apple, cucumber, kale, parsley, spinach).
In the bakery, you’ll find specialty breads along with cookies and muffins made fresh daily (the pistachio muffins are distinctly delectable!), and you’ll also find pies along with sweets made with alternative sugars. The deli offers a full spread of options, include nitrate-free meats, cheeses and other goodies (the nearby standard meat department offers grass-fed beef and something you’ll be hard pressed to find elsewhere — ground kangaroo!). There’s a fresh sushi bar in the store, and we especially like the inviting salad bar where on one side you can build your own while the other side offers 14 pre-made choices like Red Quinoa Salad, Grilled Tofu, Blue Cheese Wedges, Black Beans & Roasted Sweet Potato Salad, Quinoa Kale Tabouli and more.
The 29,000-square-foot store also has lots of bulk items which can save you even more money on items like rice, sugars, salt, nuts, trail mix, protein powder, dry beans and beyond.
There’s a dedicated gluten-free aisle, and you can also easily spot other gluten-free items in the store by looking for the yellow tags on the shelves. If your family is vegan, you’ll find plenty of fare to please your palate, including vegan cheeses.
Sprouts works to bring local items into its stores, and currently, the new Franklin location does have items local to the Southeast region as it works to bring more options in directly from Tennessee. You’ll also find more than 1,500 of the chain’s Sprouts brand items on the shelves.
Sprouts also has a big selection of vitamins and other supplements, essential oils and natural body care products. In addition, the store will host free health and wellness events along with educational workshops and health clinics on a monthly basis.
The store has a lovely sale during its opening week (through Tuesday, March 8) in which you can get bags of frozen veggies for $1 a pop, strawberries for 98 cents per pound, artisan breads for $2 and more. Find all the specials on the website.
