Young chefs with sweet tooths will love hearing about the new international camps offered at Sugar Drop this summer. Sugar Drop, located in Brentwood, is a cake, party and sweets supply shop owned by award-winning cake artist, Brooke O’Dell.
“Ever since re-opening Sugar Drop last last year, I wanted to expand our offerings, particularly as it relates to giving children a hands-on experience in the kitchen,” O’Dell says. “Now with our first summer camp and its ‘Journey Around the World’ theme, participants will be able to get creative with different tastes and flavors while building their culinary confidence and making new friends.”
Journey Around the World
Kids ages 10 and older can sign up for a four-day camp where they’ll learn to make sweets from France (June 11 – 14); Italy (June 18 – 21); Mexico (June 25 – 28); and the U.S. (July 9 – 12). A final camp theme, “Journey Through Sugar Drop,” takes place July 16 – 19 and covers basic recipes inspired by the store. Each camp runs from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Cost for each camp is $325 per student and includes a T-shirt.
Each week, students spend the first three days learning lhands-on baking and decorating techniques. On the foruth day, they’ll make a cake featuring the week’s theme.
