Where Every Family Matters

Take a Mayfield Dairy Tour with the Kids

Here's something ice creamy and yummy to do with the kids on a hot summer's day.

On your next family day trip, consider going for a tour to Mayfield Dairy Farms in Athens, TN. Head out early from Nashville to arrive at the Mayfield Visitor Center before noon. Tours start on the hour and last 45 minutes. While you wait for your tour to begin, you can explore the gift shop and even practice β€œmilking” the life-size, pretend cow!

The tour starts with a short walk to the screening room to watch a short video on the history of Mayfield Dairy Farms. This includes the production of milk, ice cream and other frozen treats. Next, you’ll walk through hallways to see the production of the factory through glass windows. Your guide will then take you on the production floor to see the machinery up close. And everything wraps up in the ice cream parlor for a scoop of ice cream in a cone or cup. There are many flavors to choose from and sample; enjoy your scoop inside at one of several tables or venture outside to sit on one of the benches located nearby.

Mayfield Dairy Farm is located at 4 Mayfield Lane in Athens, TN; 423-745-2151. Tour hours are Mon, Tue, Thu and Fri from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. No tours on Wed, Sat or Sun. Note that Athens, TN is in the Eastern Time Zone. Be sure to check the Website and Facebook page before you visit.
