Where Every Family Matters

The Ark Encounter

The Ark Encounter: A Full-Sized Reproduction in Kentucky

Christian families and the otherwise curious ones can explore a life-sized ark in Williamstown, KY.

If you’re looking for something new and different to do with the family, consider the Ark Encounter. Located in Williamstown, Kentucky (approximately a four hour drive from Nashville), the ark is a Bible-based museum. It’s located inside of a full-sized reproduction of the ark Noah built in the Book of Genesis. The ark museum covers three floors in all filled with learning opportunities, questions about living on the ark and more.

The Ark Encounter

In visiting the Ark, prepare to see a full-size Noah’s Ark, spanning 510 feet long, 85 feet wide and 51 feet high, the exact dimensions given in the Bible. The construction of the Ark took just over a year and a half. It is considered to be the largest freestanding timber frame structure in the world. Built by Australian creationist Ken Ham, Ark Encounter opened in 2016. It is operated by Answers in Genesis (AiG), which also operates the Creation Museum, located 45 miles away in Petersburg, KY.

What to Know

A visit requires time for the many interior exhibits and hands-on experiences. Kids may get restless, but ages 10 and younger are free (but still need an online ticket). Families can roam freely from floor to floor. Included in your Ark Encounter ticket is entrance, speakers, presentations and videos, the outdoor zoo and playground.
