Where to Scream for Ice Cream in Nashville & Beyond

Yummy! Summer means ice cream and lots of it! Here's where to go get your scoops.

Summer calls for ice cream month, and if you’re craving something sweet and cold, why not treat yourself to a scoop? We’ve rounded up area shops to help you choose something a little different than you might otherwise. Go ahead, scream for ice cream!


A family trip to an ice cream parlor is one of summertime’s sweetest outings. Treat the kids this Sunday at one of these tried-and-true faves in Middle Tennessee:

Bobbie’s Dairy Dip
5301 Charlotte Ave., Nashville
Since 1951, Bobbie’s Dairy Dip has been a West Nashville favorite. The building maintains its nostalgic feel, and it’s the best place in town for a classic soft-serve dip cone. Specialty shakes are a hit — try the Chubby Checker (hot fudge, peanut butter and whipped cream — YUM!).

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream

A wide selection of ice cream, frozen yogurt, ice, sherbet and sorbet flavors. Try banana chocolate chip!

Cold Stone Creamery
Design your own creation that’s hand mixed on the giant granite slab. Popular options are Birthday Cake Remix and Strawberry Blonde — order your’s in a waffle bowl. Also try one of the shop’s tasty shakes, smoothies or frappes.

Elliston Place Soda Shop
2111 Elliston Place, Nashville
Step into this retro classic soda shop — it’s been in town since 1939 — on a hot day to sit at the counter for an old-fashioned banana split or a signature malt (try the butterscotch). The Dreamsicle Shake (orange sherbet, orange juice and vanilla ice cream) is a tried-and-true favorite.

Janarty’s Homemade Ice Cream

Family owned homemade ice cream and treats shop serving fresh, small batch Ice cream, waffle cones and other treats made on site using local and premium ingredients. Check their Facebook page for what’s on the menu before you go!

Impeccable, friendly service and a hip atmosphere make eating the smoothest ice cream found anywhere all the more fun. No synthetic ingredients here; the all-natural, buttercream-based frozen treats include ice cream and sorbets. Nashville’s newest ice-cream spot is vegan-friendly. This artisan ice cream is plant-based and dairy free. It’s also nut and peanut-free, too.

Mike’s Ice Cream

Pop into this shop in the heart of Lower Broadway for handmade ice cream, fro-yo, ice-cream sodas and smoothies. Mom and Dad will like the frozen espresso and cappuccino drinks, too.
