Heads up, young anglers ages 12 and younger: The annual Crappie USA Classic’s Kids’ Fishing Rodeo that usually happens in April is on Saturday, March 24 this year.
It takes place on Old Hickory Lake at Flipper’s Bait and Tackle (200 Odoms Bend Road, Gallatin). Sign-ups are from 8 – 9 a.m., and the free fishing takes place from 9 – 11 a.m. A parent must accompany each child. Youngsters should bring their own poles and live bait.
Top winners in each division will receive a rod-and-reel combo and certificate, and everyone who enters will receive a prize. All participants are eligible to win one of six $1,000 scholarships — winners will be drawn at the main Crappie USA Classic on Lake Cumberland in Somerset, Ky., in October.
