Awesome Virtual Storytimes for Kids

Editor's picks of celebrity readings and local libraries.

Celebrities reading books online is entertaining for kids (and adults!) of all ages. Here are the top four we love the most:

GOODNIGHT WITH DOLLY

International superstar Dolly Parton, aka “The Book Lady,” is in the midst of a 10-week run of reading bedtime stories to kids on Thursdays at 6 p.m. on her Imagination Library YouTube channel. Her book selections include classics plus two that she’s written. Each of the readings are kept on the channel, so you can access them all any time.

READING RAINBOW WITH LEVAR BURTON

The former Star Trek: The Next Generation star and former host of the TV show Reading Rainbow is live-streaming readings of books for children, young adults and adults on his Twitter channel. He’s doing three readings a week. He’s selecting titles that comfort and make us laugh. “Stories have a tendency to bring us together,” he says.

ALISON ARNGRIM READS LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE

She played nasty Nellie Oleson on the Little House TV series, and now the superbly funny Arngrim is reading the entire series of Little House books online. She ticks through a chapter or two each day. Occasionally, Arngrim brings on other stars from the TV series to take a turn at reading.

STORYLINE ONLINE

This fantastic site is chock full of celebrities reading children’s books, including Betty White, Oprah Winfrey, Wanda Sykes, Sarah Silverman, Kevin Costner, Chris Pine, Lily Tomlin, Ed O’Neill, Elijah Wood and many more. New book readings added regularly.
