Frist Arts Fest

Don’t miss Frist Arts Fest at the Frist Art Museum on Sunday, April 13th from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Kids and families can spend a creative day with live music, art making, performances and more, inspired by the Frist’s current exhibitions:

Admission is free for members and guests ages 18 and younger. Cost is $20 for adults.

Schedule of Events

1:00–5:00 p.m.

  • Plein Air Painting Demos (Turner Courtyard)
    Observe the Chestnut Group and artists Ellen Parker Bibb, Lee Ann Burney, Cam Dolak, Judson Newbern, and Angela Powers as they create plein air paintings in the courtyard. With over 150 passionate members, the Chestnut Group is dedicated to protecting the natural and historic landscapes of Middle Tennessee.

  • Food Portraits (Upper-Level Foyer)
    Artists Bex Olesek and Morgan Westerbeck will be creating a one-of-a-kind custom food portrait for guests. They will assign you a food that fits your energy and create your portrait from there!

  • Scratch Art Self-Portraits (Studio B)
    Look in a mirror and create a scratch art self-portrait inspired by David C. Driskell & Friends.

Artistic Animals with the Nashville Zoo (Auditorium)
Join the Nashville Zoo and learn about three surprise furry, fuzzy, or scaly creatures that connect with current exhibitions Farm to Table and Tennessee Harvest!

Strolling Accordion (Ingram Gallery)
Listen to accordionist Jeff Taylor as he strolls the galleries of Farm to Table and Tennessee Harvest playing French and folk tunes. Taylor has been a member of the Grammy winning Western Swing band the Time Jumpers for twenty-five years. His recording highlights include Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Paul Simon, George Strait, Keith Urban, and countless other musicians. Taylor has performed hundreds of times at the Grand Ole Opry with various artists.

Paintings and Poets (Upper-Level Galleries)
Join three local Nashville poets—Donneisha, Jamal Ukwu, and Spoke—in the exhibition David C. Driskell & Friends to hear live poetry performances. Each poet has selected artworks that converse with their poems.

3:00–4:00 p.m.

Performance: Brassville (Turner Courtyard)
Brassville is a dynamic Nashville-based musical collective composed of HBCU alumni with strong ties to Tennessee State University. Known for their contemporary take on brass band music, Brassville has electrified audiences at iconic venues such as the Ryman Auditorium, Exit/In, and 3rd & Lindsley. Their sound has resonated beyond state lines, with recent performances at the Exit Zero Jazz Festival in Cape May, New Jersey.

Parking

Discounted parking is available in the Frist Art Museum lots on a first-come, first-served basis.

Parking is at a premium in our area, but there are many lots close by. There is a parking lot on Tenth Avenue directly across the street from Cummins Station. There is also parking available in the Gateway Parking Lot behind Union Station, accessible from an entrance just past the Flying Saucer restaurant on Tenth Avenue.
